The Forehead

The forehead is a relatively flat structure with accentuation over the ridge of the brows. The forehead and brow slope to the sides and drape over the temporal area. An attractive forehead has smooth skin that gently descends toward the brows. The brows are outlined with a slightly raised arch laterally as it transitions into the temporal area.

The earliest signs of aging occur around the eyes, forehead, and brows. During your initial consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will assess your forehead and discuss your options for beautifying and rejuvenating your forehead and reversing the signs of aging. Those options may involve the skin only, or may include the underlying muscle and bone.

Environmental factors and aging will decrease the soft tissue support to the forehead, brows, and even the upper eyelids. The skin will appear looser and reveal wrinkles. The skin will begin to droop and create what is also known as hooding. To rejuvenate the forehead, it is necessary to consider all the elements.

I have worry lines

Repeated facial expressions over time begin to take their toll by forming forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. The best treatment depends on the type of Wrinkles that are forming must be determined. Dynamic Wrinkles respond best to Botox®, which is the ideal treatment for preventing those telltale signs of aging from forming. Botox® relaxes the expression muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Keep in mind that long-standing dynamic wrinkles can eventually become static wrinkles that are present at rest. Static wrinkles are treated with tissue fillers like Restylane®.

My skin has lost its tone

After Botox® or Restylane®, skin resurfacing can put the finishing touches on your new look. Microdermabrasion smoothes out skin imperfections by mechanically resurfacing the superficial skin. A particle-free microdermabrader offers superior results. Signs of sun damage and aging may require deeper repair.

The Obagi Skin Restoration System works at the cellular level to restore the skin texture, tone, and complexion. This Obagi system helps to correct surface discoloration and blemishes, and stimulates cell renewal to bring back the glow and softness of healthy, younger-looking skin. A Blue Peel may be used to complement the Obagi system. The Blue Peel plumps the lines from within to even out the skin tone and complexion. In some cases, a Reeverse anti-aging facial may be indicated. Reeverse is a series of medicated facial mask treatments with a potent antioxidant formula that reverses the visible signs of aging and sun damage. Reeverse must be administered under physician supervision.

I have droopy brows

Noninvasive treatments can often be combined with surgical procedures to accomplish a complete rejuvenation of the upper face complex. Minimally invasive procedures such as the Endoscopic Browlift offer lifting of the forehead with a propensity to maintain a natural look. A temporal incision will also elevate the lateral brow and minimize the appearance of hooding. The Contour Thread Lift offers a less invasive alternative to the endoscopic browlift. The contour thread lift can be performed under local anesthesia in some patients. Upper eyelid Blepharoplasty will help eliminate the redundant and loose skin over the eyelids and will help recreate the upper eyelid crease.

Less is more

In addition to the increase in skin laxity due to aging, a significant amount of fat and collagen loss occurs over time. When these structures are diminished the surface skin will lose projection and appear sagging. Surgical procedures are sometimes necessary to remove loose, sagging skin.

Autologous Fat Transfer may be used to restore tissue volume and restore a more natural contour of the forehead. It may also eliminate the need for other surgical procedures. Fat is an ideal solution. It is harvested from the same patient and is prepared and injected in the appropriate areas. Fat transfer is “autologous” because the fat is harvested from the same individual in whom it is used. The procedure plumps up facial features with the patient’s own fat and is a popular alternative to other wrinkle treatments. Fat injections to the face are a safe, natural, and nonallergenic procedure designed to recontour your face and provide definition to your eyes, cheeks, mouth, and chin.
