The Neck

A beautiful neck is long and graceful. It is outlined by a prominent jawline and a well-defined chin. The left and right sides of the neck come together in the midline forming a triangle with the chin. Lack of definition in the neck can result from weak bone structure, aging, or both. With age, these structures begin to merge with one another: the jowls begin to droop and the cheeks flow into the neck.

What can be done to eliminate a double chin?

A localized collection of fat deposits just below the chin create the appearance of a second chin. A fine cannula Liposuction of the fatty tissue in that area will contour the neck and chin back to an attractive form. When the muscles also require tightening, a Neck Lift procedure may be required.

It’s not in my neck doc…

Neck rejuvenation must also take into account the underlying contours of the bone structures of the chin and jawline, and the state of the overlying muscle fat and skin. Someone with a weak chin or a poorly defined jawline will have the tendency to show a double chin or a sagging neck much sooner than someone with a more defined bone structure. Imagine the jaw as a triangle. The base of this triangle is an imaginary line from where the earlobes are and the peak is the chin. The shape of this triangle acts like the frame of a tent on the skin of the neck. A poorly defined jawline and chin can only be restored with a strategy of volume restoration. Chin Augmentation will restore volume to a weak chin and clearly delineate the end of the face from the beginning of the neck.

Jowls… are they part of my neck?

Chin enhancement offers another advantage in individuals who begin to develop jowls. Often a depression forms where the soft tissue in front of the jowls begins to weaken. The jowls appear as though they are larger and droopy when it is actually due to soft tissue loss. This condition can be corrected with a specially designed chin implant.

I can no longer tell where my face ends and my neck begins!

Mandibular Angle Augmentation can increase the width of the base of the aforementioned triangle and define the jawline. This augmentation is capable of adding proportion and balance to the face. Most importantly, it will delineate the neck from the face.

A Facelift may also be considered if the changes in the neck also affect the face. A droopy neck can benefit from a facelift that emphasizes elevating and defining the neck.

Any less invasive options?

The Contour Thread Lift is a less invasive procedure that can be well suited for a moderately droopy neck.
