The face is a complex composition. To best understand the procedures necessary to rejuvenate and beautify the face, it should be viewed as two distinct structures: Skin and the Bone Structure. A change to either of these structures can have a dramatic effect.
Your skin is like the wrapping on a gift-it may not seem as important as the gift itself, but it certainly makes a nice presentation. The skin section outlines the most effective treatments to give your skin a healtFy glow.
The bony structures are important because they form the foundation for the muscle fat and skin on top. Think of it like the frame of a rectangular sofa. No matter what padding and fabric you place on top, the sofa will always remain rectangular. To change its shape, one would have to change the frame.
The consultation
In your initial consultation with your cosmetic surgeon, you should express your desires and expectations and identify any specific “trouble areas” you would like to address. Your surgeon will advise you of available procedures to help you achieve your desired goals.
The earliest signs of aging occur around the Eyes, Forehead, and brows. Your cosmetic surgeon will assess your specific trouble areas and present surgical and nonsurgical options to rejuvenate your face and reverse the signs of aging.
Surgery to enhance your appearance
A Facelift is a comprehensive surgical procedure that can be tailored to your particular needs. A surgical procedure should preserve your appearance and make you look better. It should not result in the “surgical” look often created when the skin is pulled back so tight that the cheeks are flattened and facial expression is reduced or lost. A facelift such as that will invariably reduce wrinkles and jowls, but as a whole, it ages the face. The preferred choice is to restore as much volume as possible to the Brows the Cheeks and the Chin. Restoring volume will dramatically lessen the need to pull the skin too tight and create an exaggerated appearance.
What about my skin?
Your skin is the most important structure to consider when reviewing your cosmetic surgery options. Read more about it in the Skin section of this virtual consultation.
Can you treat acne scars?
Acne scars are often difficult to treat due to localized loss of tissue in each acne crater. Even when the skin is smoothed, the craters remain. Naturally, an isolated acne scar is easier to disguise and remove that a widespread area. Although CO2 Laseris recommended by many practitioners, the prognosis is limited. Acne craters cannot be effectively treated with CO2 laser alone; combination therapy with CO2 laser and surgical abrasion to the affected area can reduce the depth of each crater and shrink the craters in size. Subcision of deeper craters is accomplished with a relatively new device that allows for a more accurate release of the scar tissue. The underlying soft tissue deficit is then restored with Fat Transfer. Subcision surgery is an effective treatment for isolated scars and stubborn wrinkles, including the Nasolabial Folds and smile lines.
